We chose Katahdin's over other breeds for their hardiness and lack of wool. The Katahdin are hair sheep, they shed their coats in the spring. No shearing is required. They are a cold hardy breed. We have days in the winter that hit 20 degrees below zero fahrenheit (-28C), our Katahdins don't seem to even notice. The breed was developed in Maine and named after Mt. Katahdin.
